In 2009, the basics of this song were written while I wasn't...well, coherent. The "trip" part of the title is vague enough not to give that away, but, if you're reading this, well, cat's out of the bag, and definitely hallucinating because there were leftover stems in there.
ANYWAY, moving on, I awoke the next day to find it poorly put together on my computer in a midi program I use. Not sure what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised, as I'd apparently written some gnarly riffs while I was seeing things. Taking it and making sense of it all, later on that summer I had the basics of a song that I really liked. Then, I proceeded to tweak it for years, not sure what really to do with it, and also I was playing around in other bands as kind of a hired gun, just desperate to play out and taking any opportunity I could to do so. When I finished writing Epiphany, I came across The Good Trip, in all of its mish-mashed, unfinished glory, and after a few days of mulling over ideas, and several cups off coffee/cans of Red Bull, I wrote the lead parts for the verses, the bridge, and the solo, and suddenly had a whole new song on my hands. I was so proud, and still can't really process that its roots are from a day that I'm that opposite of proud of lol.
